Chapter 9: Algebraic equations (Part 2)
9.1 Introduction
In algebra, we can use linear equations to solve problems called “age problems”. In these problems, the ages are compared to each other and additional information is given so that you can work out each person’s current age. For example, Robert’s brother is \(5\) years older than him, and his mother’s age is three times his current age. If we do not know Robert’s age, but only know that the sum of ages is \(70\), we can work out how old he are.
In this chapter, we continue to work with algebraic equations. We will use additive and multiplicative inverses, as well as the laws of exponents to solve equations.
